MEET YOUR CREW
CAPTAIN DUSTIN SMITH
Captain Dustin Smith...please don't forget to call him Captain. This guy's been shark fishing for over 10 years. A decade might seem like a short-stack against some of the old timers around the area but don't take that lightly.
This Captain is on or in the water all day, every day. His desk is located under the stairs to the beach and when he's hungry, the gulls bring him fresh fish. He started NSB Shark Hunters three years ago to help others enjoy the sport and to help people see the real beauty behind what society has deemed evil, sharks….
Shawn began fishing with his father at the age of three. He's caught all freshwater species in the Southeast during his lifetime. He began saltwater fishing during vacations to the Gulf Coast at the age of thirteen.
Shawn relocated to Florida in March 2017, and met Captain Dustin for the first time on the Sunglow Pier. He was fishing for shark and Shawn was fishing for anything swimming around the pier at the time. Captain Dustin went over the pier and into the water while fighting a 16' hammerhead that refused to be caught. Shawn dove over the rail and together both men wrestled and swam the beast to shore, true story. They became instant friends and it didn’t take long before Shawn was meeting Dustin at the beach to learn the techniques for catching sharks.
They've been fishing together ever since. The Captain convinced Shawn to become part of the NSB team, under the name Apex Fishing Adventures.
When asked to write a bio for the website, Dean looked puzzled. He didn't know what a "website" was. Turns out, Dean was raised by pirates and landed on the coast by chance when his ship went down in the waves off Daytona. The locals like to whisper tales about how he gripped the dorsal of a Bull shark and planted his feet on the monsters back to ride him into the shallows off the beach where he's remained ever since, about 50 years. The pirate DNA is so ingrained into Dean then he penned his bio in his decades-old captains log salvaged from the shipwreck he arose from.
Eventually, Dean was curious as to how to catch the very beasts that saved him and started looking for someone to show him the ways of the shark. It was then he happened upon Captain Dustin Smith who took Dean under his wing. After years of hard work and apprenticeship, Dean landed his first shark in October of 2016. Dustin and Dean have since remained best friends and Dean continues to stay "Hooked" to the monster soup most people call the ocean. Dean lives for the adrenaline that comes from landing sharks, and the uncertainty that lies in what kind you may catch.
He thinks of NSB Sharkhunters as a big family and loves the experience they bring to individuals and families alike. When asked about the customers, he says "They are awesome. Some become extended family and to see the look on their faces when they get a shark is "priceless"
